A Sunday February Morning

I was down three pounds today, probably not after the breakfast I made this morning. We like to have big breakfasts on Sunday and this, or oatmeal is a common one for us. The home fries were done in the air fryer and the croissants were from the grocery store. I’ve never made croissants at home before. My original plan was to make wild sour dough bread, but my wild starter didn’t make it. The recipe I got it from said to use filtered water, but I used tap water (we have extremely hard water where I live) and it never got bubbly. I will try again with distilled water.

Daylight is lasting longer and I’m feeling it. The birds are chirpier, there is more sunshine, and I’m feeling happier. It’s still cold, but there’s something in the air. It was supposed to rain all weekend, but instead there was more sunshine yesterday, and although it’s cloudy today, it’s not raining. We’re going to go for a walk again today, not through the woods, but around the town.

I made cards this weekend.

I love the Autumn one, I made that with water colour paint, stamps, and water colour paper. The shark/whale is hilarious I want to use it often. I do like the peacock one, but it wasn’t quite right. I wish I had a flamingo stamp, or die to go with the palm frond embossing folder I used. My favourite card wasn’t pictured here, I sealed it in an envelope before I took a photo of it. If you want to see it, or what I used to make the cards and where to get the supplies for them, I’ll have it posted in the video below.

Let’s Talk About Cloaks

Let’s talk about cloaks and why we don’t wear them anymore. I’ve never worn a cloak, but I really want to. I love the way they look, they remind me of fairy tales. I don’t know why we don’t currently wear them. Since I’ve never worn one, I can’t attest to their practicality. There are no arm holes and maybe they aren’t very warm. It might be a pain in the arse having to hold it closed, and how would you carry your handbag while wearing one (if you carry a handbag). Cloaks were the furthest thing on my mind until I went on YouTube.

Rachel Maksy’s most recent video popped up in my subscription list, she was making cloaks and wearing them. She showed the pattern she used and I bought it on Amazon. I’m going to wait until the pattern comes before I buy the fabric. I’ve got to try this cloak thing out!

I also made cards this week. The two pictured above were my favourites. I made the other three below as well. Jay liked the Thanks card the most.

I cut the Yes!? part off the cat stamp (it was part of the big cat stamp). I didn’t think it went together so I chopped it off. I tried Ann Melvin Positivelypapercraft‘s laminator hack, to make the cat window card. Mine was a little bubbly, I’ll need practice. I’ll post a video of the cutting dies, stamps, and embossing folder I used to make them, below.

Valentine’s Cards – Steamy and Sweet

I made two Valentine’s cards, with cutting dies from Aliexpress, steamy and sweet. I attached them to a kraft cardstock base and left them simple.

The steamy one reminds me of a tropical beach at sunset. I had originally ran the dark blue card stock through an ocean patterned embossing folder, but it looked too busy, so I left it plain. The sweet one started with a tartan background strip because the silhouette reminded me of preppy (do people still use that word, preppy?) college kids, but they grey and black one won out.

I really like how they turned out and I’ll make more in the future.

Cards,Books, and Gaming

I made a couple more cards this weekend. My favourite is the one on the left (the little frenchie dog). I’m sending that one to my future inlaws for a Valentine’s card. They have a little frenchie and it looks so similar to the one on the card. I bought the stamp for this reason and I love how great it worked. It was another of my Aliexpress purchases. The one of the right was made with cutting dies, also from Aliexpress.

I finished a book I really liked, by Samantha Irby (I wanted to hear more about pooping in a blizzard). I enjoyed reading her work and want to read her other books, she’s a funny lady.

I got an old playstation on the classified adds and I’ve been binge playing it off and on since the holidays. I ended up buying three consoles. The first two I bought from a gaming store and had to return them twice. Both consoles didn’t work! The shop owner refunded me and I got one through the classifieds. This one worked (YAY)!

I’ve been playing Baldur’s Gate Dark Alliance. I want to get my hands on Dark Alliance II, it’s my favourite game and I can’t find it anywhere (unless I want it for $80 or more which I might actually pay one day, but not right now) and Scooby Doo Night of 1000 Frights. Now that I’m old (haha) I get nauseous if I play games too long and my butt gets numb. I’m sitting on a Bosu Ball while I play. If you don’t know what that is, it’s exercise equipment. I’m sitting on my butt playing video games on exercise equipment. I realize how laughable that is. It’s been fun.

New Hobbies, Books, and Hair Care

The end of the week found me at the mall, shopping for a birthday present. I went to Indigo (I still want to call it Chapters) and saw this book that sounds hilarious. I’m looking forward to reading it. I can’t go to a bookstore and leave without a book.

As for what’s in the Sephora bag, I got some hair care products.

I tried using cornstarch for dry shampoo, but it just doesn’t work very well. It does help, but left white powder in my hair, even through the next day. So, I’m giving real dry shampoo a try.

I tried the hair scrubby thing this morning and I loved it! I have a problem with shampoos building up on my hair and collecting on my scalp (I also found out your not supposed to use a handful of shampoo, you’re only supposed to use two dime sized amounts. I tried it, it’s true, that small amount of shampoo will clean your hair. I was basically doing everything you’re not supposed to, insert video here). This scrubby felt amazing, my scalp felt better, and it did feel like it helped with residue. I think with time, I will love it even more. It had great reviews on Sephora. I must have seen it advertised somewhere, like a lot of other people, because the salesperson at Sephora said it was super popular lately. I don’t even know how I was brainwashed into buying it, I don’t remember where I saw it advertised, but I like it.

Also at the mall, I got shampoo and conditioner from LUSH, to try. I haven’t tried many of their products. These are tiny bottles and they were really expensive for the size. Maybe I’ll love them and since I don’t use a handful of shampoo anymore, it will last a long time (I still use a handful of conditioner).

The box with Paper Pumpkin on it, is a card making subscription box. I haven’t opened it yet. I’m always really excited these kits and happy when it’s delivered.

I’m about to take on a new hobby, or really pick up an old one I haven’t done in a long time.

Making soap! I used to really like it. This kit is the melt and pour glycerin based soap, that I got at Michaels. With this style youbasically melt ready made soap in the microwave and add fragrance and colourants to it. I used to make the oil and lye style soap, and I will be again. I’m waiting for a loaf mold and soap cutter to come (it’s going to take a long time to arrive). I’ll also need a stick blender, which I am positive will be easily found at the thrift shop. I got this kit to play with until my loaf mold comes in. It also takes over a month for lye soap to cure, before you are able to use it. I’ll be using natural colourants, like turmeric and beet root powder, when I make my own, and scenting them with essential oils. I’m so excited!

I also want to learn to sew, all because of this video. what a beautiful dress! But I don’t have that much time to add another hobby at the moment, and that would be taking on too much on top of all my other much loved hobbies. One day though. How amazing would it be to make your own clothes!

October 9/2020 Rude Cards! (warning swear words)

I made a rude card, and I love it. It was simple to make and I love love love the stamp. I bought this card with my best bud in mind. She loves cats and has the type of sense of humor this stamp was made for (this is the same recipient of the cat butthole card). The above video is me putting it together. I’ll post the finished result below.

I might colour in the woman and the cat if I make the card again. Right now I’m loving it the way it is.

Mail Haul For The Week Of September 28/2020

This week my Halloween craft supplies came in, just in time for the month of October. It was a mix of cutting dies and stamps. I’m very excited to start playing with them. There was a lot of packages to open so instead of pictures, I did a video of me opening them. I hope to post some Halloween cards soon.

Mail, Fish, and the Blues

This week has been filled with beautiful cool weather and sunshine. And I… have not felt like going outside. It must be the times we’re living in, as I seem to have the blues, and lack of drive. I always love this time of year, and an energy boost always came with the cooler weather, but not this year. I have not felt like going outside at all, lately. I just want to sit in my chair and watch YouTube. I’m really not sure how to pull myself out of this funk. I know being outside and some exercise will lift my mood, but I can’t seem to make myself do it.

These cutting dies and stamps came in the mail this week, along with a letter from a lovely friend. It will be time for Halloween things soon, this came at a perfect time.

I made it out to visit family this weekend and they took me to see the salmon run (I’ll post a quick video at the end). I’ve never seen the salmon run before. It was really enthralling to see tons of huge fish, swimming up the stream, but also sad because they were there to spawn and die. Some of them looked so healthy and vibrant, that I hoped they made it through to live for years; a lot of the others looked like zombie fish.
