Wildwood and Surprises In The Mail October 12/2020

It was such a beautiful weekend! The sun was shinning and the weather was beautiful. I went hiking through the woods at Wildwood Conservation Area. It’s such a pretty walk there. The trail does a loop to make it 24km long. I only went 10km this time. I love walking here.

There’s lots of interesting things to see and the trails are easy to walk on.

To make the weekend even more wonderful, this unexpected package was waiting for me in my mail box. It was from my friend in England. She sent me this adorable hot water bottle.

How perfect for the weather! I’m always cold, this is going to so helpful. I have the sweetest friends ❤

Apple Picking 2020

Another year of picking apples at Myers Farm in Copetown. The staff was super friendly and I love this place, I try to go every Fall. Each year I get a monster sized bag of apples. They are so delicious. I just love apples!! I went with my spouse and best friend. We had a great time. It’s activities like this that really help improve my mood. It gets me outside into the fresh air for some fun and happiness.

There were no wagons this year because of COVID, so we carried the bags through the orchard (there is also a 45 minute time limit – also because of COVID). It was a good workout! Between the three of us, we had two humungous bags of apples, and were able to take turns carrying them, so it really wasn’t too difficult. We did see a couple guys hunched over, hauling two huge bags under their arms. They didn’t look like they though it wasn’t too difficult lol. I hope they made it back to their cars without dropping them!

I highly recommend an afternoon of apple picking. You will know exactly what I’m talking about when I mention being “apple full” by the end of it. ❤ ❤ ❤

Mail, Fish, and the Blues

This week has been filled with beautiful cool weather and sunshine. And I… have not felt like going outside. It must be the times we’re living in, as I seem to have the blues, and lack of drive. I always love this time of year, and an energy boost always came with the cooler weather, but not this year. I have not felt like going outside at all, lately. I just want to sit in my chair and watch YouTube. I’m really not sure how to pull myself out of this funk. I know being outside and some exercise will lift my mood, but I can’t seem to make myself do it.

These cutting dies and stamps came in the mail this week, along with a letter from a lovely friend. It will be time for Halloween things soon, this came at a perfect time.

I made it out to visit family this weekend and they took me to see the salmon run (I’ll post a quick video at the end). I’ve never seen the salmon run before. It was really enthralling to see tons of huge fish, swimming up the stream, but also sad because they were there to spawn and die. Some of them looked so healthy and vibrant, that I hoped they made it through to live for years; a lot of the others looked like zombie fish.

I Made A Geocache!

I made a geocache this weekend. I wanted to put it in the mini library I set up at my home, but there was another geocache too close by and the site wouldn’t permit it. Instead, the geocache was placed in a log, on a trail nearby, in a waterproof container. I wanted it nearby so I could randomly add more local gift cards, when I felt like it.

I put a log book and pen inside (Dollarama was a great source for mini pens and notebooks) , as well as a gift card from the local sweet shop. I put some Halloween stickers and a few mini balls of yarn. I want to put bubbles in there (I still might!), but I was warned they will inevitable spill. My geocache box is wooden and I’d never get the bubble solution out of it.

The cache was published about an hour ago and I can’t wait for the First To Find! For more information on geocaching, please click here.

Metal Detecting At The Beach

I bought a metal detector yesterday. I always thought they were so neat. I’ve heard stories about finding jewelry, money, and antiques, secrets in the sand.

I chose Canadian Tire’s cheapest option (it was on sale for $109.00) and tested it out on the lawn. I found an old hunk of metal and ripped up the lawn looking for it. I don’t think I would have noticed any difference with a more expensive model, but then again, I’ve never used one before. This one seems to work fine.

Today was the day when I would find my own hidden treasures. I went to Port Albert… I found rebar, twice! I moved down to Grand Bend to try my luck there… rusty nails!

I didn’t find any treasures this time around, but it was fun and I can’t wait to try again. If you have any suggestions of good places to try metal detecting, please let me know!

Carp Cam!

I briefly gave the new Akaso camera a try, underwater in the Owen Sound harbor. The water is so clear there! This quick clip was taken by my boyfriend. The fish were huge. I am really happy with the camera. I didn’t have the microphone on the last time, you can hear sound through the underwater case (I previously mentioned you couldn’t, in another post). I can’t wait to try it out more.

Snorkeling Lake Erie

I recently purchased a full face snorkel mask, and action camera from Amazon. I tried them for the first time at Lake Erie, a couple days ago. I’ve only used the traditional snorkel that you stuck in your mouth. I’ve never felt like I could breathe very well and a lot of times I would get water down the snorkel.

The full face mask was better, I could even dive under the water and fully submerge the mask without water getting in the intake valve, but it did leak slightly around my forehead. There was a lot of pressure on my face when I dove under the water. My boyfriend’s mask didn’t leak at all and when we switched he didn’t have any problems. It must be the shape of my face. I still feel like I can’t breathe very well in it and had to take it off a lot, but I think I’ll adjust to it. I haven’t don’t much snorkeling in my life and need to get used to it.

I like the camera a lot. It has a case for under water, which prevents any sound coming through, but I’m okay with that. The water was too murky to be able to test it properly, but from what it did catch, I think it did pretty good. The mask has an attachment on the breathing tube for the camera and it attached easily. The whole breathing tube nozzle came off and I am so lucky I noticed it (that’s when you get the butt shot of my boyfriend). I will check to make sure the nozzle is attached properly next time and see if it happens again.
